In computer graphics, a sprite is a two-dimensional image or animation (2D computer graphics) that is integrated into a larger scene primary used for old video games so the characters can have animation using animation strips congaing of multiple pictures.
3D Isometric Sprites
3D isometric sprites are 2D sprites that give the impression of depth, posed in 3D,these are used in The Sims to add depth to the single perspective. They are still used in games today normally on foliage (and as you play games the grass and leaves on trees turn to face you to give the impression of depth which is a very cleaver trick in games.)
Concept Art
concept art is used to help convey the idea that the make of the game has so that everyone in the team know what they're working with and cannot get the wrong idea.
In game Interface
In video gaming, the HUD (heads-up display) is the method by which information is visually relayed to the player as part of a game's user interface. The name is taken from the head-up displays used in modern aircraft.
Printed media
The printed media used in gaming industry is:
- Box art- to show the player what the game is and to attract the buy to the game.
- manual- to tell the player info about the game like controls.
- posters- to advertise the game or for fans of the game to buy
- collectibles/pre-order bonus- to get the player to buy the game or if they where already going to buy the game pay full price early.
Textures
A texture is a skin the is wrapped around an object to give it an appearance or colour of something, the are different types of textures such as:
- height maps- that is used to store the elevation detail in a texture.
- Diffuse map-used for photorealistic images
- Opacity maps- which hold transparency
- Bump maps- which map the grayscale value
