- Raster Images
raster graphics image is a dot data structure representing a generally rectangular grid of pixels, or points of colour, it will look good for something like a badge or photo as it can hold a good amount of data but looks terrible as a large images because it does not upscale well.
Vector Images
Vector graphics are graphics that are made up of lines and are mathematically accurate, they can store things like lines and polygons, bigger files can also store wire frame models
but the down side to them is that they will take longer to load then a raster image because they are being drawn line by line.

Bmp are use for game textures for handheld and older consoles like the ps1 and dose not have compression, they also translate well for printing because the data can be read like a grid but the drawback are that it does not scale well and it can be a very large file because of the lack of compression.
GIF
Gif's are used for pictures that need animation and has a lossless compression
