2D game graphics are graphics that use two planes, usually in early consist of flat images and it was 8-bit or 16-bit but has evolved with the time but does not mean that the bit type of 2D is not used nowadays.

The difference between 2D and 3D Graphics
The main difference between the two is that a 3D image has an extra dimension which relates to the depth of field that eyes react to making so that we think that the image is real/life like and 2D images look flat because they have no depth of field present.
